Summer doesn’t officially begin until June 21, but the mercury cracked the 90-degree mark Tuesday for the first time this year, and forecasters are predicting more of the same for the next couple of days.

Tuesday’s high of 90 was 4 degrees above normal. Atlanta’s last day in the 90s was on Sept. 7, when the temperature reached 92.

Last year, the city hit 90 degrees three times in May and nine times in June, including Atlanta’s all-time record high of 106 degrees on June 30.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is predicting highs of 92 Wednesday and Thursday, with cooler weather on tap for the end of the week.

Minton said there’s a 10 percent chance of rain Wednesday, increasing to 50 percent Thursday.

Friday through Sunday should be dry and a little cooler, with highs in the mid- to upper 80s and overnight lows in the 60s.
