Heavy rain moved into metro Atlanta early Tuesday morning and by 8 a.m. rainfall amounts were around an inch across much of the area.

The National Weather Service early Tuesday issued a flood warning for the Coosa River in Floyd County, where heavy rain had pushed the river's level to just above flood stage, causing minor flooding of fields and pastures along the river.

Closer to Atlanta, rainfall totals through noon included 1.07 inches in Dallas, 1.03 inches in Dunwoody, 1.58 inches in Peachtree City and 1.27 inches at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said the rain will be "coming in waves" throughout the morning.

The rain is expected to begin tapering off after noon. Tuesday afternoon's high is expected to reach the mid-60s, Minton said.

Sunshine returns Wednesday and is expected to linger through the rest of the work week. High temperatures Wednesday should again reach the mid-60s before climbing to the mid-70s Thursday and near 80 degrees on Friday, Minton said.
