The early week drizzle and rain had ended across metro Atlanta by daybreak Wednesday, but parts of the state were hit with torrential downpours overnight.
The National Weather Service posted a flash flood warning just before 2 a.m. for Jefferson County in east-central Georgia, where 3 to 4 inches of rain had fallen with another 1 to 3 inches possible. The county sheriff's office told the Weather Service that several roads were underwater.
This week's rainfall has been spotty, with some parts of the state receiving substantial rain and other areas getting barely damp.
Atlanta's official rain gauge at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has recorded just .32 inch of rain this week, while in Athens, 2,46 inches fell on Tuesday, a record for the date.
While no rain is in her metro Atlanta forecast for Wednesday, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is predicting a 40 percent chance of rain for Thursday. Highs will be in the 70s, with lows in the low 60s.
Sunny skies are forecast for Friday through Sunday, with afternoon highs in the mid-70s and overnight lows in the low to mid-50s.
