Atlanta's pollen count Wednesday, while still extremely high, was barely half of Tuesday's record-shattering mark, and weather forecasters are offering up a good chance of air-cleansing showers by week's end.

The count Wednesday was 5,174 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air. Tuesday's record count was 9,369.

The major pollens present Wednesday were Birch, Mulberry, Oak and Pine, according to the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic.

Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said there is a 30 percent chance of rain Thursday afternoon, with highs in the upper 70s.

Friday, the chance of rain jumps to 70 percent, with a few thunderstorms possible, he said. Highs will be in the mid-70s.
