Strong winds downed trees and knocked out power Sunday and Monday, but they are history.

Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said temperatures would be in the low 40s in metro Atlanta overnight.

Tuesday should see highs in the upper 60s, which is below the average of 74 for this time of year, he said.

Highs will be in the upper 70s Wednesday, with lows in the low 50s.

The warming trend will continue with highs in the mid 80s Thursday and Friday. Lows will be in the low to mid 60s, Burns said.

A wind advisory was in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for gusts to around 35 mph.

A Georgia Power spokeswoman said about 10,000 customers lost power Monday morning because of trees falling across utility lines. Hard-hit areas included Buckhead and the Ashford Dunwoody Road and Nancy Creek areas of north Atlanta.

A tree knocked down power lines when it fell across Glen Errol Road in Sandy Springs around 6 p.m., Channel 2 Action News reported. A live power line was down on Long Island Drive.

A tree and power lines fell on a car on Memorial Drive near Wyman Street in southeast Atlanta, Channel 2 said. Two people were trapped for more than 40 minutes, and the driver went to the hospital due to dizziness.

Strong winds also toppled trees on Queen Street in southwest Atlanta and on West Wesley Road at Habersham Road in Buckhead.

Sunday afternoon, Sandy Springs police reported that a tree fell on an occupied vehicle on Heards Ferry Road near Riverside Drive, sending one person to Northside Hospital with minor injuries.

Overnight Sunday night, a tree was blown down across Wieuca Road in the Buckhead area.
