Severe thunderstorms overnight downed trees northwest of Atlanta, but Wednesday should be dry as rain from Tropical Storm Beryl has moved well east of Georgia.

The National Weather Service said an upper-air disturbance kicked off the strong storms that prompted severe thunderstorm warnings for the northwest suburbs around midnight Tuesday night.

The storms downed trees in Floyd, Chattooga and Bartow counties, and hail was reported in Cherokee County. No injuries were reported.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said an approaching cold front will bring another chance of rain beginning Thursday and continuing into Friday.

Forecasters warned that isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from Thursday night into Friday.

Minton said the chance of rain is 30 percent on Thursday, increasing to 70 percent on Friday.

Highs will be in the upper 80s on Wednesday, low 90s on Thursday and low 80s on Friday, Minton said.

Minton said the weekend weather should be “fabulous,” with lots of sunshine and highs in the 80s.
