The new work week began on a chilly note, with a few sprinkles on the northside and more widespread showers south of Atlanta, but warmer temperatures are expected later in the week.

At 8 a.m. Monday, radar showed light rain scattered from the Columbus area to the southern suburbs, with middle Georgia south of Macon getting a good dousing. Temperatures were in the low to mid-40s.

The mercury was expected to hold in the mid-40s on Monday, with a 50 percent chance of rain, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.

The rain should end by Tuesday, and Minton is predicting highs in the low 60s on Tuesday and in the mid-60s the rest of the week.

Lows should be in the upper 30s Monday night, mid-40s Tuesday and Wednesday nights and around 50 degrees on Thursday night.

Minton said there's a slight chance of rain moving back into metro Atlanta by Thursday and Friday.
