The tornado that tore through Atlanta in March 2008 caused great damage. How has the area recovered?

Then: The Cabbagetown area of Atlanta was one of the hardest hit by the tornado that tore through the city in March 2008. This house, at 252 Powell Street, was severely damaged.

Now: The 200 block of Powell Street in Cabbagetown has two empty lots where houses used to be, at 250 and 252 Powell.

Then: Charles Lynch, right, and Davant Turner, inspected an old comfort house, or rest room, at Oakland Cemetery. The storm wreaked havoc in the cemetery leaving trees down and monuments turned over.

Now: An old restroom at Oakland Cemetery is still a work in progress.

Then: Boards filled the blown-out windows of the Georgia Pacific and Equitable Building in downtown Atlanta.

Now: The Georgia Pacific and Equitable buildings in downtown Atlanta look largely restored.

Then: Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Vine City had roof damage and a broken spire.

Now: Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church still has tarp covering part of its roof.

Then: A building on Nassau Street in downtown was in rubble and damaged a nearby car.

Now: Nassau Street's crumbled building has been razed.
