Electrical issues shut down the Atlanta Streetcar for much of Thursday afternoon’s rush hour.

Streetcar spokeswoman Scheree C. Rawles announced the suspension of service just before 5 p.m. Thursday, saying crews were working on overhead power lines at Edgewood Avenue SE and Jackson Street NE, as well as Auburn Avenue NE and Peachtree Street NW.

“Repairs may cause temporary road closures along the streetcar route,” Rawles said in an emailed statement. “Traffic control measures will be in place; however, motorists are urged to avoid the impacted area if possible.”

At about 6:40 p.m., the streetcar’s official Twitter account announced that normal operations had resumed.
