A City of Atlanta police officer had to be freed from his patrol car after being struck by another vehicle Monday afternoon.

The officer, whose name was not released, was driving southbound on Centennial Olympic Park Drive when his patrol car was struck at the intersection with Baker Street, Officer Kimberly Maggart with Atlanta police said. A man traveling westbound on Baker Street told police his brakes failed, causing him to hit the patrol car, Maggart said.

The impact caused the patrol car to strike another city vehicle, Maggart said. No one in that vehicle was injured, she said.

The injured officer was alert when he was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, police said. The driver who hit the officer also was transported to Grady. Their conditions were not immediately available.
