As temperatures continue to climb in Atlanta, few things are quite as satisfying as a cold, sweet treat from Morelli’s Gourmet Ice Cream and Desserts.
The dining experts over at Thrillist narrowed the country’s thousands of ice cream joints down to the very best 31 shops representing “everything from old-school custard outposts and soft-serve emporiums to new-wave artisan creameries.”
Morelli’s, which opened its first storefront at 749 Moreland Avenue in 2008, earned a spot on the list for its vibrant homemade flavors.
Here’s what Thrillist had to say about the popular Atlanta dessert shop:
“Opened in 2008 by a husband and wife who realized making ice cream was way more fun than pharmaceutical sales, Morelli’s has been an Atlanta sensation ever since, rotating a deep roster of flavors that ranges from childhood-channeling (PB&J sandwich) to sophisticated (strawberry rosewater), to gloriously Southern (Krispy Kremier, whose components you should be able to deduce). Pro tip: Try the salted caramel, whose salty-sweet recipe is guarded so closely, it’s known only by the owner and one other staff member.”
In addition to the Atlanta store, Morelli’s has set up shop with Farm Burger just outside the perimeter (4514 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road). You can also find Morelli’s treats at the We Juice It shop inside Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
While Morelli’s earned the honors from Thrillist, Atlanta is home to several more mouth-watering ice cream spots. According to locals, Decatur’s Butter & Cream is a must-try, along with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and Four Fat Cows.
