The Atlanta City Council voted Tuesday to confirm Mayor Kasim Reed's pick for his chief operating officer.

Peter Aman, 43, will provide policy direction and management of all city agencies. His duties are much like a city manager. Aman previously worked as a partner at Bain & Company, a global consulting firm that did pro-bono work for former Mayor Shirley Franklin's administration. Aman will make $242,742 this year in salary, healthcare and other benefits, city records show.

Also Tuesday, Reed nominated Sherri T. Dickerson as the city's human resources commissioner. Dickerson has worked 14 years at the city. She's served as the human resources policy director the past eight years.
