The public safety and legal administration committee of Atlanta's City Council approved a $144,000 payout involving a raid of a South Atlanta bar in the early morning of May 3, 2010. Atlanta police officers raided Ruby's Sanabella Restaurant and Lounge on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard on suspicion that the bar was still open and selling drinks after hours, around 3 a.m. Eric Richardson, deputy city attorney, said the city's legal team recommended the settlement with eight plaintiffs who had filed suit in U.S. District Court. The plaintiffs alleged violation of their Fourth Amendment rights against illegal searches and seizures.
