ATL parking meters: Now you have a choice about how to pay

The traditional parking meter has fallen out of favor.

In the latest example, Atlanta has begun removing some coins-only meters and replacing them with more than 200 multi-space meters that accept coins, bills and credit cards.

The new meters are going in primarily downtown, on Forsyth, Walton, Gilmer, Courtland and Pratt streets, among others. Single-space meters in those areas will be covered with green bags stating "Note Space Number, Pay At Pay Station," and the bags will be left on for at least one week.

Late last year, the city hired Milwaukee-based Duncan Solutions to run its parking program. More information on the program is available at parkatlanta.org.

In February, Lanier Parking introduced a pay-by-phone service for on-street parking at Atlantic Station. Lanier also plans to use the service at dozens of its metro Atlanta parking lots.
