Five people have been arrested and a teenager is in critical condition following a botched robbery and shooting near Snellville, Gwinnett County police said Thursday afternoon.

Four men and a woman apparently arrived at a home Wednesday afternoon in the 3500 block of Spring Mesa Drive and attempted to rob the residents, Cpl. Brian Kelly said. Someone in the home was able to call 911. But before officers could arrive, the suspects left and someone in the home fired several shots at the suspects' vehicle, Kelly said.

The vehicle's driver, 35-year-old Walter Simon, was shot in the hip and a front seat passenger, 17 year-old Devonte Bowles, was shot in the head, but the vehicle continued onto Springdale Road before it left the roadway and landed in a ditch, police said.

Simon was treated and released from the hospital and has been arrested, Kelly said. Simon, of Detroit, has been charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, police said.

Two others in the vehicle, 35-year-old Kara Casey of Detroit and 24-year-old Anthony Trim of Lawrenceville, have also been charged. Casey and Trim have each been charged with one count of armed robbery and three counts of false imprisonment, police said.

A fifth person in the vehicle, 20-year-old Cortez McClain, fled the scene on foot and is wanted by police for questioning, Kelly said.

Two people at the home have also been charged for their roles in the shooting incident. Erick Mocrieffe, 21, of Snellville is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Travys Davy, 19, of Decatur, is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
