An Arizona man died Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on I-575 north of Canton.

Cherokee Count fire spokesman Tim Cavender said the wreck happened about 1 p.m. Sunday when a northbound Ford Explorer slammed into a bridge pillar at the Lower Bethany Road overpass, killing the driver.

The Georgia State Patrol identified the driver as 28-year-old Luca Garovi.

Garovi was initially reported as being from California because he had a driver’s license from that state, but his family told Cherokee authorities that the Peoria, Ariz., man was born in Switzerland and had been working with the Swiss Embassy in Atlanta.

Garovi was not wearing a seat belt, according to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright.

Wright said alcohol use is not suspected.
