For many of Michael Vick’s former dogs, a life of horror is turning into a happy tale.

More than two years after the dogs were seized from the football player’s Bad Newz Kennel in Virginia, some are finding new homes as family pets, thanks to the work of such animal rescue groups as the Utah-based Best Friends Animal Society, USA Today is reporting.

BFAS took in 22 of the 70-plus dogs rescued from a dogfighting ring and have rehabilitated the canines from fearful and aggressive creatures to household-ready mates. Twenty of the 22 rescued dogs will go to families once they pass a behavior and temperament test.

BFAS designated the pooches as “Vicktory Dogs” and selected a pit bull mix named Georgia as the face of its mission, according to the BFAS Web site. Georgia, who has visible scars from her dogfighting days, has appeared with BFAS officials on Larry King Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, ESPN and more.
