Items from an Angel Food Ministries warehouse and Emmanuel Praise Church, the church founded by Joseph and Linda Wingo, will be auctioned off on Saturday in Monroe.

The absolute auction will be held, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday at 690 Unisia Dr. Later, the auction  moves to 1620 S. Broad St.  An inspection will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

Items to be auction include forklifts, pallets, restaurant equipment, tables, chairs and sanctuary equipment.

Angel Food Ministries was formed about 17  years ago by the Wingos and later grew into a thriving, nationwide food ministry. The Monroe-based nonprofit sold boxes of food at discounted prices  through a network of churches. In 2008, after obtaining more than $7 million in U.S. Department of Agriculture loans and grants, Angel Food was recognized by the White House as a model of collaboration between the government and faith-based initiatives.

In recent years, though, things soured. Angel Food closed its doors in 2011, citing  the economy and increased  costs for food, fuel and operations.

But federal officials allege in an  indictment that Joseph and Linda Wingo, also known as “Pastor Joe” and “Pastor Linda,” also siphoned millions of dollars off their nonprofit food ministry — and spent the money to support a lavish lifestyle . The Wingos and two others have pleaded not guilty.
