The Alpharetta City Council has approved a $462,521 contract to lay new, artificial turf at the North Park soccer field.

Sprinturf LLC was awarded a turf replacement contract that also calls for removing the existing turf, making sub-surface corrections, installing end zone netting, and replacing perimeter fencing and goal posts, according to a staff report to the council.

Staff of the Recreation and Parks and Public Works departments worked with members of the Finance Department to develop the scope of work for the project, staff said. The work also entails installing permanently inlaid, white football field markings and yellow soccer field markings. The field measures about 75 by 132 yards.

The new turf is required to be between 2.25 and 2.5 inches in height, resistant to bacterial and fungal growth, treated with a UV inhibiter and low maintenance, and it must have an extended warranty of at least 10 years. The work is expected to be done between Nov. 26 and Feb. 15, with the field available for play Feb. 16.
