The Alpharetta City Council Monday voted 7-0 to reject proposed improvements Johns Creek officials had sought as part of their project to improve Kimball Bridge Road between Old Milton Parkway, State Bridge roads and Jones Bridge Road — along the border between the two cities.

As one element of the two-mile project, Johns Creek had wanted to connect Kimball Bridge and Webb Bridge roads at an intersection and put a roundabout at the entrance to Webb Bridge Park. Johns Creek needed approval because both the connection and roundabout would lie within Alpharetta.

Johns Creek officials wanted improved access to the park for both cities’ residents, but the Alpharetta council feared the plan would worsen traffic and heard substantial opposition from neighborhood residents. The overall Kimball Bridge improvements involve adding lanes and a median and upgrading several intersections.
