The city of Alpharetta is calling on hundreds of area volunteers to help with an upcoming cleanup and preservation effort along local trailways.

Scout troops, service groups and outdoor enthusiasts can help Alpharetta with its conservation project, "Rivers Alive!," on Oct. 15. Volunteers will spend the morning removing trash from roads and waterways along the Big Creek Greenway Trail.

This is Alpharetta's 26th year hosting the mass outdoor tidying project. The clean-up is part of "Rivers Alive," a joint program of Georgia's environmental protection division's Adopt-A-Stream and Keep Georgia Beautiful programs.

Groups can pre-register for the event by calling 678-297-6200 or emailing tporter@alpharetta.ga.us.

Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. at Rock Mill Park on Kimball Bridge Road.
