The mayors and city councils of Alpharetta and Johns Creek want additional information about the proposal to let Fulton and DeKalb voters decide on paying up to a half-cent more sales tax to fund MARTA expansion, tying into a possible rail extension north along the Ga. 400 corridor from Sandy Springs to Alpharetta.
The city councils of both communities approved a resolution that says before any plan is placed on the ballot, independent research needs to be done to assess the impact on surface roads from three new transit stations in Alpharetta attracting commuters using north/south corridors other than Ga. 400. The cities also want to know how different transit alternatives such as light rail, heavy rail and bus rapid transit might improve drive times along 400.
The cities also want any transit-oriented development along an extension to be fully in line with local zoning laws and standards of each applicable city and seek neutral and detailed ballot language.
