Airport worker who died after being trapped under lift is identified

Aug 3, 2011

The man who died after being trapped under a hydraulic lift Tuesday at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has been identified as Eric Lee, 29, of Cartersville.

Lee was working in the North Cargo area when the accident happened around 4 p.m., said Katena Carvajales, the airport's media relations manager.

More than 70 firefighters and other rescue workers tried for hours to free the trapped man, Channel 2 Action News reported.

He was extricated from the scene but did not survive, Carvajales said.

Officials told Channel 2 that a contractor doing remodeling at the building was at a loading dock when it lowered and trapped him underneath it. He was semiconscious when they arrived and rescuers could see him, the report said.

The investigation is continuing.
