Gwinnett County Animal Shelter has already reduced adoption fees to $20 for the general public for the month of May. Summer months can be particularly busy for shelters as animals left outside can run away and feral dogs and cats often have litters of puppies and kittens at higher rates.

In addition to the traditional selection of dogs and cats, the shelter also has two rabbits available: Flopsy and Mopsey.

All animals are spayed or neutered before they go home with their new owner. They also receive a medical exam, vaccinations and a microchip.

The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It is located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors.
