Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood and the city’s Board of Aldermen will hold public hearings on a proposed tax increase.

They are proposing to keep the same millage rate of 7.6 - the same as it has been since 2011, but it will require an increase in property taxes by 6.1 percent.

The anticipated annual tax increase for a house with a fair market value of $150,000 is about $26.22 and, for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $250,000, around $43.70.

Hearings are planned for 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. July 21 in the Council Chambers, Acworth City Hall, 4415 Senator Russell Ave., Acworth.

The millage rate is expected to be adopted following the final public hearing during the 6:45 p.m. July 21 meeting.
