About 500 homes and some businesses in East Point will be without water service for about two hours tonight while workers install a 16-inch emergency valve, officials said.

The work will start at 10 p.m. It is expected to finish by midnight. Officials said they will let residents know when the work is complete.

“This will be the best time for this particular repair because the water demand will be minimal,” city officials said in a news release.

Houses on the following streets will be affected by the  shutoff: Semmes Avenue, Warren Way, Broad Street, Headland Drive, Hillcrest Drive, Neely Avenue, West Forrest Avenue, Lexington Avenue and Kimmeridge Drive.

Some businesses on Virginia Avenue also could be affected.
