Firefighters battled a blaze at a vacant apartment building in DeKalb County on Friday night.
The incident happened in the 1400 block of North Hairston Road, off Memorial Drive.
After a call from an adjacent apartment complex, crews arrived at the Colony of Stone Mountain and found heavy fire in the center core of Building 19, Steve Ham, assistant chief for DeKalb County Fire Rescue, told the AJC.
Crews knocked down the fire from outside before searching for possible victims and finding none, he said.
Fire officials requested a backhoe from the DeKalb County Roads and Drainage department.
"We're going to knock the building down and overhaul it once it's on the ground," Ham said. "Not going to risk getting firefighters hurt in an unstable building."
