Runners gathered last Saturday at Simpsonwood United Methodist Church for the 2011 Peachtree Corners Christmas 10K and 5K to raise money for the Georgia Cup and Simpsonwood UMC’s local missions.
The race partnered with the Peachtree Corners’ church to build a sense of involvement in the local community as well as active living. “Georgia Cup started in 2002 as a one-stop place to promote an active and healthy lifestyle and now it has the most bike races in the country,” said promoter James Lowe. “This is the first race we are doing and it’s great that a part of the proceeds will go toward the mission and its work in the community.”
The mission works on local charities such as local shelter Rainbow Village, Ronald McDonald House and the Norcross Cooperative Ministry which serves families in the Norcross area. “We promote local missions and encourage others to find something in their backyard to be involved in. It is so intrical to the development of a community and the people who live in it," said Jim Ellison, senior pastor at Simpsonwood UMC.
The race had more than 800 runners and raised over $7,000 for Georgia Cup and Simpsonwood United Methodist Church.
