More than 2,100 gallons of sewage spilled from a manhole in Duluth on Wednesday, and some spilled into a nearby creek.

The spill occurred at 3109 Dover Dr. in Duluth. It was caused by grease, wipes, paper and other products, according to the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources.

Some of the sewage entered Sweetwater Creek. The Department of Water Resources raked the spill area, applied lime and put up signs alerting residents of the spill.

Gwinnett County cautions against putting grease, paper, wipes and other objects into toilets and drains, as they can cause sewage spills. The county asks that residents do not treat their toilets as trash cans.
