Mary Kay Humphress, 88, a retired teacher at Tucker High School in DeKalb County, died Saturday, June 11.

Born in the coal mine camp of Fork Ridge, Tenn. and raised in Middlesboro, Ky., Mary Catherine Campbell Humphress and her now late husband settled in Atlanta, where she remained until moving to Greenville., S.C., in 2010.

She taught English at Tucker High School, where she developed the Gifted and Talented program that was eventally adopted by DeKalb County Schools for all its high schools.
