The DeKalb County Commission voted Tuesday to wait two weeks before deciding whether George Turner should become a temporary commissioner representing about 140,000 southeast DeKalb residents.

Commissioner Larry Johnson said he and his fellow commissioners will use that time to meet with Turner, who was nominated for the seat Monday by Interim DeKalb County CEO Lee May.

Turner, who would fill a seat that has remained vacant for more than a year since May became CEO, serves as president of the District 5 Community Council, as a board member of the Arabia National Heritage Area and as president of the Hunter’s Run II Homeowner’s Association.

Turner would be a member of the county commission at least until the end of suspended Burrell Ellis’ trial, which is scheduled to begin next month.
