The Atlanta metro area will see a series of runoff elections on Tuesday, as several primary races in May resulted with no candidate receiving a majority of the vote. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has put together a list of some of the most important local races, from judgeships to county boards.
DeKalb County
Board of Commissioners District 7
Incumbent Gregory Adams will face Lorraine Cochran-Johnson in a Democratic runoff. With no Republicans in the race, this election will decide who will represent the district on the board.
Stone Mountain Circuit Superior Court
Latisha Dear-Jackson and Tunde Akinyele face off in a non-partisan race to replace retiring Superior Court Judge Dan Coursey. Coursey, who announced in January he would retire at the end of his term, is the longest-serving judge in the history of the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit after 36 years on the bench.
Gwinnett County
Gwinnett County Superior Court
Veronica Cope and Tracey Mason are running to fill the seat of retiring Judge Tom Davis on the Gwinnett County Superior Court in a non-partisan race.
Fulton County
Atlanta Judicial Circuit Superior Court
Kevin Farmer and Fani Willis are vying for the a seat on the Atlanta Superior Court. The winner will replace Judge Tom Campbell.
Cobb County
Cobb County Commissioner District 1 Republican Primary
Incumbent Bob Weatherford is facing a challenge from Keli Gambrill in a Republican runoff. The winner will not face a Democratic challenger in November.
Smyrna City Council Ward 6
Tim Gould and Idella Moore are running in a non-partisan race for a seat on the Smyrna City Council.
