If you shop in Atlanta, get ready to dig deeper in your wallet.

Starting Wednesday, Atlanta’s sales tax will inch up to 8.5 percent. It will rise again April 1, to 8.9 percent. Taxes in the rest of Fulton County, outside of Atlanta, will also increase April 1, to 7.75 percent.

The increases are a result of three separate sales tax votes that passed last November.

The money will fund transportation projects across Fulton and Atlanta.
