James Touchton, the former director of policy and government affairs for the Council for Quality Growth, has been named economic development director for the city of Stockbridge.

Touchton, who worked with the Council for six years prior to coming to Stockbridge, also was a senior policy analyst and advisor for the Georgia Senate Research Office for five years.

“I’m excited to begin the role as the economic development director for the city of Stockbridge and to work with the City Council and city staff and community leaders, the county, Chamber of Commerce and other organizations to continue the great work already in place to keep a vibrant and robust Stockbridge moving forward," Touchton said.

Leaders say they can get the lawsuit moving quickly

Touchton comes to Stockbridge as the city is in a legal battle to avoid losing as much as half of its population and businesses to a proposed city of Eagle's Landing. Beefing up the area's economic development is one of the reasons Eagle's Landing proponents cite as necessitating cityhood.

Touchton received his bachelor’s and master's degrees from Kennesaw State University and is president of the Board for Advance Atlanta, a transit advocacy organization.

He also serves on the Town Center Alliance Advisory Board.
