Several critics of Cobb County’s public investment in a new Atlanta Braves stadium plan to use the public comment portion of Tuesday’s commission meeting to talk about the deal.

Stadium critics were shut out of the public speaking portion of a commission meeting two weeks ago, when several key agreements were ratified that are necessary for stadium construction to proceed.

Braves supporters showed up for the meeting up to five hours in advance, to take all the 12 public speaking slots. Several stadium critics were removed from the meeting by police when they would not stop asking Commission Chairman Tim Lee for an opportunity to address the commission that night.

Rich Pellegrino, a member of Cobb Citizens for Governmental Transparency, said he’s not sure how many people from his group will be at the meeting but they do plan on speaking about the stadium deal.

“We are going … and we’ll have some of the talking points we were going to share (at the previous meeting) before we were ejected,” Pellegrino said. “We’ll also talk about the need for a permanent rule change to help guide the commissioners and the chairman.

“When the public shows up in force, there needs to be a rule change to ensure the public can participate.”

The AJC will be attending Tuesday’s meeting and provide coverage on ajc.com and myajc.com.
