A packaging company is bringing more than 500 jobs, most of them part-time, to south Fulton County.
Sonoco Products Company is opening a facility in leased space in Fairburn. The company will invest about $20 million in the facility, the Georgia Department of Economic Development said in a statement.
Sonoco is co-locating its operations with a Duracell facility, and will support the battery packaging operation in south Fulton. In addition to packaging materials, retail displays will also be made at the facility.
Sonoco said it will hire 130 full-time and 465 part-time employees as part of the expansion. The company already has more than 300 full-time employees in the state, working at eight manufacturing and three recycling centers.
The new facility “will serve as a magnet for additional companies in this industry and will further strengthen our manufacturing network,” Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson said in a statement. It will be fully operational at the end of next year.
In a statement, Fulton County Commission Chairman John Eaves said the decision reflects increased investment and job creation in the county.
“We are an economic engine, not just in metro Atlanta but across the Southeast,” Eaves said.
