A Roswell city councilman who was booked on child sex crime charges earlier this month has been released from jail on bond.

Kent Igleheart, who was arrested Oct. 20, posted the $30,000 bond Sunday. He was released from the DeKalb County Jail on Monday, according to jail records.

Igleheart, 53, is accused of sexual exploitation of a child, enticing a child for indecent purposes and furnishing alcohol to a minor. Authorities say he maintained a four-year relationship with a girl beginning when she was 13.

Igleheart could not be reached for comment.

The mayor, Jere Wood, and some members of city council have spoken out about the case. In an emailed statement, Roswell Councilwoman Nancy Diamond said if the accusations against Igleheart are true, “they are extremely disturbing, to say the least.”

Wood, who is out of the country, said in an email that the city would“take the appropriate action” to remove Igleheart from office if the allegations are correct.

Roswell’s city charter says an elected official shall forfeit his office if he is convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude. Igleheart also would have to relinquish his seat if fellow council members vote unanimously in favor of removing him.

Igleheart, who is Roswell's mayor pro tem, can be removed from office if he misses three consecutive council meetings, as well. He missed one last week while in jail. The city council has two meetings Tuesday.

Igleheart’s term expires Dec. 31, 2017.
