Georgia's Office of Consumer Protection has reached a settlement with Wavee US LLC over claims the company misled customers on its web site, the agency's administrator, John Sours, said Friday.

Wavee conducted "penny auctions" on its web site, but failed to send a number of products to consumers in a timely manner and failed to clearly disclose purchase terms on its site, the consumer office said. Under the settlement, Wavee will cease operations, provide $202,210 in consumer restitution and pay $50,000 in civil penalties and administrative expenses.

Wavee will pay $50,000 to the state to establish a trust account for issuing refunds to consumers who unintentionally bought bid credits from the company. Consumers who believe they may be entitled to compensation under the settlement can submit a form, with supporting documentation, to the consumer protection office.

Claim forms, eligibility requirements and instructions for filing a claim can be found on the office's web site: www.consumer.ga.gov.
