Lee said financial terms of Braves deal to become public in coming weeks

Nov 11, 2013

Cobb County Commission Chairman Tim Lee said Monday that financial details of the county’s deal with the Atlanta Braves will not be finalized for about two weeks, and he would not confirm the $450 million figure being widely circulated as the county’s commitment to the project.

Lee also would not say how the public money would be used — whether it’s for infrastructure improvements, building the ballpark, or some other uses.

“We’re still working on a Memorandum of Understanding and the details associated with the financial statement,” Lee said. “Hopefully, we’ll have the completed in the next couple of weeks.”

Lee said the Braves agreement would have to be approved by the county commission, and there would not be a public referendum. The chairman said he didn’t expect the vote to be controversial among commission members.
