A Gwinnett County Jail inmate died in custody Thursday.

Norman Montgomery, 56, was found dead at 1:44 p.m. by a deputy conducting a security check. Deputy Shannon Volkodav said the cause of death was unknown, but that Montgomery appeared to have died of natural causes.

Montgomery had been treated by the jail’s mental health staff. He had been jailed since April 2013 for felony obstruction, criminal damage of property in the second degree and entering an auto.
