Georgia courts could issue only temporary custody orders on children of deployed military members under a bill approved Tuesday in the Georgia House.

Senate Bill 112 also would allow for a permanent order until the military parent is at home for at least 90 days. Supporters argued the measure is important to the nearly 271,000 residents who are on active-duty military service or in the National Guard in the state.

The House voted 172-0 for the bill. It now heads to Gov. Nathan Deal for review.
