Georgia could soon perform background checks on emergency medical technicians in the state.

Senate Bill 76, approved Tuesday by the Georgia House 167-3, also would reimburse emergency medical service for trauma patients who are taken out of state, such as those taken to medical centers near state lines.

The measure now heads to Gov. Nathan Deal, who could sign it into law.
