A candidate for one Gwinnett town’s city council said this week he’s not racist and defended social media posts about Jews and Israel.

Joe Briggs, a 59-year-old engineer, is running for a Suwanee City Council seat. A series of controversial tweets was brought to light this week after the wife of a current Suwanee councilman raised questions about Briggs’ online activity.

“I’m absolutely not racist in the very least,” Briggs told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
