Pleading from members of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners was not enough: the decision as to whether property tax assessments will be rescinded will be delayed another week.

“These are people’s lives. These are your neighbors,” Fulton County Commission Vice Chairman Bob Ellis told the county’s Board of Assessors Thursday. “I beg of you and plead of you, rescind the notice and conduct another review.”

Members of the Board of Assessors said they needed to know the ramifications of making such a decision before they voted.

The request to rescind assessments came from both Fulton and the city of Atlanta, after many residents across the county saw huge jumps in their property assessments. Nearly a quarter of the 318,000 residential parcels in Fulton had assessments that were up 50 percent or more; half were up by at least 20 percent.
