Fulton appoints new member to board that oversees Turner Field

Nov 5, 2015

Fulton County has appointed a new member to the board that will determine the fate of Turner Field.

On Wednesday the county Board of Commissioners appointed Geoffrey A. Heard to the Atlanta-Fulton County Recreation Authority Board. Heard is director of the Summerhill Neighborhood Community Center and lives in the Green Valley Acres area of southwest Atlanta. He previously worked as an administrator in health services and anti-poverty initiatives in the Atlanta area.

The recreation authority oversees operations at Turner Field, Zoo Atlanta and Philips Arena. The board is currently soliciting proposals for the redevelopment of Turner Field after the Atlanta Braves depart in December 2016.

Heard joins Fulton Commissioners Marvin Arrington and Bob Ellis as the county’s representative on the nine-member board. Atlanta appoints the other six board members.
