Four entertainment venues located along Buford Highway in Metro Atlanta could lose their liquor licenses after being cited for failing to submit paperwork, taxes, or fees by the renewal deadline.
Josephine Lounge, XS Restaurant and Lounge, Rush Lounge (also know as the Iris) and Medusa Restaurant and Lounge each filed paperwork to renew their liquor licenses, but the city of Brookhaven denied them for various reasons. Appeals were filed on each of their behalf, but the city's Alcohol Board voted today to uphold the initial ruling.
The nightclubs could ask the court system to overturn the city’s decision. Brookhaven says the venues can remain in operation while they continue to appeal only if they pay the $100,000 licensing fee to the court registry while their cases are pending.
In recent months Brookhaven has cracked down on nightclubs along Buford Highway, where development is causing an increase in property values.
