Cobb County’s tax digest grew about 6 percent to $32.7 billion in 2019, reflecting a strong local real estate market despite signs of cooling.
“What we’re seeing is maybe it’s just not as hot as it was last year but real estate is still increasing,” said Stephen White, director of the tax assessor’s office. “I think it says that real estate continues to be a great investment in the county.”
The tax digest reflects the value of all residential, commercial and personal property throughout the county as of Jan 1. Assessments go out in spring, and tax bills later in the summer.
White said there were no surprises in this year’s digest, which has been steadily growing for several years.
The Board of Commissioners is expected to keep the millage rate flat when they vote on it in July, but higher home values will likely result in higher tax bills for many.
