Waffle House confirmed Tuesday that an employee who worked at a Cherokee County location has tested positive for coronavirus.

The employee has not been at work since March 1 and has been released from the hospital under quarantine, the company said in a statement.

“We temporarily have closed the restaurant located at 1849 Marietta Hwy in Canton, GA.,” the statement said. “During the restaurant closure, we sanitized the restaurant thoroughly, using methods specifically designed to clean and disinfect.”

The company said it is working closely with public health officials, and all employees who worked with the affected individual have been asked to self quarantine. Those who were scheduled to work and were unable to due to the quarantine are being paid, a spokesperson wrote in response to follow-up questions.

“Our main concern has been, and will continue to be, the safety of our associates and customers,” the statement concluded.

Jennifer King of the North Georgia Health District, which covers Cherokee, wrote in a text that the department does not provide information about specific cases.
