A Gwinnett County teacher is the subject of a human resources investigation after reportedly raising her voice and making "inappropriate comments" toward students last week.
Lanier Middle School Principal Todd Hamilton sent a letter home to parents Tuesday addressing the situation.
"We were notified by several parents that a teacher allegedly raised her voice with students after an intramurals class and then later led a class discussion about the incident making inappropriate comments," Hamilton wrote. "The parents reported that this interaction made their students uncomfortable and caused them concern."
The identity of the teacher was not revealed in the letter, nor was the exact nature of the comments. Citing the parent of one Lanier student, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported that the teacher "called black students disrespectful for leaving early."

Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesman Bernard Watson declined to comment on the incident, citing the open human resources investigation. Hamilton's letter said the teacher involved has been "out of the classroom" during the probe.
"Respect is one of our key mottos here at Lanier Middle," Hamilton wrote. "And, just as we expect students to respect teachers, we expect our staff members to respect students."
Lanier Middle School is on Suwanee Dam Road in Sugar Hill.
