With summer's end right around the corner, it's time to prep for another school year.

The 2015-2016 DeKalb County school year will begin Monday, Aug. 10. Here's what you need to know to be prepared:

1. Open house dates: This is a chance for both students and parents to meet teachers and visit classrooms.

Open house for elementary and middle school students will be held Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for elementary students and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for middle school students.

Open house for ninth graders and new students will be held Thursday, Aug. 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and for returning high school students, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. More information here.

2. School start/end times: Elementary schools will either begin at 7:45 a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m. or begin at 8 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. Parents of children in elementary school should verify the start and end times for their specific schools. Middle schools will begin at 8:50 a.m. and end at 3:55 p.m., while high schools will start at 8:10 a.m. and end at 3:55 p.m. More here.

3. School meals: Applications for free and reduced meals will be distributed to students at the beginning of the school year and a new application must be submitted each year. Apply for a meal plan. | Related: Meal price list, Menus
